Uzana is a real discovery. The resort is located right at the feet of the Ispolin Summit at 1,420 meters above sea level. A place huddled among venerable oak forests, best known as the geographic centre of Bulgaria -  just 20 km South from the town of Gabrovo. The small and modest mark that shows the real geographic centre of Bulgaria and is a real attraction for the tourists in this small paradise site. In the winter it is suitable for winter sports and during the summer for mountain hiking, cycling and horseback riding.

SKI and SPORTS conditions in UZANA

Uzana ski area is situated between 1,300 and 1,400 meters above sea level in the central, one of the most beautiful, part of the Balkan Mountain Range (Stara Planina Mountain). The site provides great opportunities for most snow-sports, mountain and ecological tourism. Although economically underdeveloped, the interest of the tourists is huge and the site is getting more and more popular, especially among UK citizens looking to reside in peaceful area away from urban chaos and Romanian tourists looking for a cheaper ski vacation. The ski season starts in the middle of December and ends in mid March. The total length of the pistes in the site is 3 kilometers. The Usana site offers a professional ski piste that is 1,300 meters long and is equipped with Pomagalski drag. This is actually the longest piste in the site. Part of the equipment is build with the support of the Tune town in Switzerland. The beginners can use the other 7- 8 small pistes. During the winter the visitors can also hire motor sleights and have fun in the fluffy snow. Another attraction is the kite- sport. As a whole, skiing conditions are quite limited and very basic, but that might just be what some skiers want. In the future local enterprisers plan to build a ski- run piste that will pass trough the natural park “Balgarka”.

The Uzana site is a real paradise for the people who love nature. It is attractive with its crystal clear mountain air, quietness and the gifts of nature. The area can be easy described as a picturesque and huge alp. Uzana is surrounded by the natural park “Bulgarka”, which is famous for its venerable oak forests and miscellaneous animal world. The Uzana site is also a home of very rare floral species included in the Red Book (of endangered species) of Bulgaria! The surrounding sites of Uzana are also suitable for speleology and rock climbing. 

It is the starting point of many mountain routes as well as the summits Shipka and Buzludzha. The nearby situated hut (Chalet) “Uzana” is part of an international walking highway, that reaches the shores of the Black sea. The horse stables base of the “Three Bears” offers another unforgettable experience in the Balkan mountain! The sites provides wonderful conditions for relaxation through the year.

The possibilities for cultural tourism in the region are inexhaustible. In the nearby open-air Ethnographic Museum “ETARA” people can learn more about the old Bulgarian crafts presented in front of them by authentic craftsmen who keep the traditions alive. The picturesque “Sokolovski” monastery is situated just several kilometers away from the Uzana site. The renaissance (National revival) towns Bozhenci and Tryavna, which have preserved their architectural appearance for over 150 years, are also not far away. 

A lot of people from foreign countries come here to combine their vacation in the heart of the Balkan Mountain Range with the typical for the region folklore. That is why there are some local tourist enterprises that offer special courses for foreigners to learn more about the Bulgarian people, customs and culture.

Accommodation and Hotels in UZANA

The small hotel Geographic Centre and the 3-star Hotel Impulse are full of tourists all through the year. The tourists can also stay at the other 6-7 hotels scattered in the area and providing good conditions for relaxation among the quiet and calm atmosphere of the mountain. The close by villages of Stomonetsi and Zeleno Darvo (Green Tree) can also be a great option if you prefer local experience with accommodation in private houses (quite worth the try).

At the moment the local authorities are planning to further develop the existing tourism base!
